University of Thessaly

The University of Thessaly (UTH) is one of Greece’s largest public higher education institutions, with a strong presence in education, scientific research, and innovation. Established in 1984 and headquartered in Volos, the University currently operates across five cities: Volos, Larissa, Trikala, Karditsa, and Lamia. With eight Schools and a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate study programmes, the University makes a substantial contribution to the generation and dissemination of scientific knowledge.

With a strong commitment to academic excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and connecting research with societal and industrial needs, the University of Thessaly promotes innovative activities across various scientific disciplines, including agricultural sciences, health sciences, engineering, information technologies, nutrition, and environmental studies. Through modern research infrastructures and active participation in national and international research programmes, the University supports the development of emerging technologies, the exploitation of research outcomes, and the transfer of scientific knowledge to society and industry.

Particular emphasis is placed on promoting sustainable development and addressing contemporary challenges related to agri-food systems, natural resource management, public health, and climate change. By fostering collaborations with research institutions, businesses, and public organizations, the University aims to develop scientifically grounded solutions that strengthen the competitiveness, resilience, and sustainability of production systems.

The University’s participation in the Flagship Initiative for Sustainable Agri-Food Systems (Sus.Agri.Food) aligns with this strategic direction, reinforcing collaboration among academic and research institutions to generate and utilize scientific knowledge for the benefit of the Greek agri-food sector.

Through its educational, research, and societal engagement activities, the University of Thessaly continues to play a significant role in advancing scientific excellence, technological innovation, and sustainable development at both national and international levels.
