Honey
Central Greece is known for its exceptional biodiversity, offering the microclimatic and soil conditions necessary for the production of numerous honey varieties, some of which are extremely rare. More than 2,600 local beekeepers operate with over 200,000 beehives throughout the region, methodically relocating their hives across Central Greece to secure the ideal location and optimal microclimatic conditions.
The most important type of honey is fir honey, collected during the summer months from pristine fir forests, and is known for its high nutritional value.
Oak honey comes from dense oak forests and is characterized by its dark color. It is a rare variety with very limited production.
Pine honey is harvested in the summer from forested hillsides and has a distinctive aroma and color.
Flower and wild herb honey is collected in late spring. It has a bright color, a rich flavor, and is packed with trace elements.
In the coastal zones of the region, at altitudes from 0 to 300 meters, beekeepers place their hives to take advantage of the rich vegetation, primarily thyme. The thyme honey of the region has been renowned since ancient times for its exceptional quality and superior organoleptic characteristics. Thyme honey is mainly harvested in July.
