Drama Wine(PGI_
The region of Drama, at the northeastern edge of Macedonia, is known for its rich winemaking tradition. The Drama PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) zone includes the entire prefecture, with vineyards extending from altitudes of 80 to 1,000 meters, mainly between 200 and 400 meters. It is surrounded by Mount Falakro, Mount Menoikio, and Mount Pangaio. The climate is Mediterranean in the southern part and shows continental influences in the northern part due to the higher altitude.

• Indigenous: Agiorgitiko, Limnio
• International: Nebbiolo, Refosco, Tempranillo, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah
Drama cultivates over 5,000 acres of vineyards, producing more than 4 million bottles of wine annually, with 40% exported internationally.
Regarding nutrients, wine contains water, ethanol (alcohol), carbohydrates (mainly sugars), organic acids, minerals, and trace elements. Calorie and alcohol content vary depending on the type of wine. Moderate wine consumption has been linked to certain health benefits, mainly due to the antioxidants it contains, such as polyphenols. However, excessive consumption can have negative health effects.
