Galotyri

Galotyri is a traditional Greek cheese with Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status, produced mainly in the regions of Epirus and Thessaly. It is made from 100% Greek goat and sheep milk, combining the flavor of cheese with the beneficial properties of yogurt. It has a slightly tangy taste and a creamy texture.
Consuming galotyri provides high biological value proteins, essential fatty acids, calcium, and vitamins such as B2 and B12. These nutrients contribute to bone health, proper nervous system function, and strengthening of the immune system. Additionally, the presence of probiotics from fermentation can enhance digestive health.
In the kitchen, galotyri is extremely versatile. It can be enjoyed as a table cheese, added to salads, or served alongside meat and fish dishes. It is also used in pies, such as the traditional Epirus-style wild greens pie (hortopita), offering a unique taste and texture.
