Graviera Cheeese of Naxos

Graviera Naxou has been registered in the EU as a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) product since 1996 and has earned a reputation as one of the most important Greek cheeses. It has received numerous distinctions in both international and domestic competitions and is exported to more than ten countries worldwide.
Graviera Naxou is made from pasteurized cow’s milk or a mixture of cow’s milk with sheep’s and goat’s milk, with the latter two making up to 20% of the total. It has a thin rind and a pale yellow, compact interior filled with small holes. Graviera Naxou is a hard cheese with a fresh taste and a mild aroma. Its moisture content is up to 38%, and its fat content is at least 40%. The milk used in its production comes from animals raised on the island, which are fed on the local flora, plants and herbs that give the milk its distinctive flavor.
