Kymi Figs
Kymi Dried Figs are a unique product of the Greek land, recognized as a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) product by the European Union. They are produced exclusively in the area of Kymi, in Euboea, from a local fig tree variety, with approximately 25,000 trees cultivated in the region.
The first references to the distinctive form of Kymi figs date back to the 16th century. They have rich and very flavorful flesh, but due to their thin skin, they are highly sensitive during transport and thus unsuitable for commercial distribution as fresh fruit.
The production process of Kymi Dried Figs is traditional and requires special care. The figs are hand-picked, naturally sun-dried, and retain their natural sweetness without the addition of preservatives or other additives. The result is a product of exceptional quality, rich in dietary fiber and vitamins A, B, C, K, as well as potassium, calcium, phosphorus, and iron. They contain no salt or cholesterol and are low in calories.
The commitment of local producers to preserving the traditional methods of cultivation and processing ensures the authenticity and high quality of the product, making Kymi PDO Dried Figs a true treasure of Greek gastronomy.
