Emblematic action for agri-food systems in Meteora

A special event was held yesterday in Meteora as part of the Sus.Agri.Food initiative, in collaboration with the University of Thessaly. In a place of unique cultural and natural value, the meeting highlighted the need for the sustainable development of agri-food systems, linking scientific knowledge with local production. The event hosted prominent academics, representatives of local production and organizations, with the aim of disseminating good practices and creating a fruitful dialogue on sustainability in the primary sector.

The Rector of the University of Thessaly, Professor Charalambos Billinis and the Vice-Rector, Professor Chrysi Laspidou, who emphasized the importance of linking research to the needs of the local community. Professor Athanasios Exadaktylos from the Department of Agriculture, Ichthyology and Aquatic Environment presented the case of Alonnisos tuna as an example of innovative and sustainable exploitation of marine resources. Professor Nikolaos Solomakos from the Department of Veterinary Medicine analyzed the role of local dairy products in strengthening nutritional identity and sustainable consumption. Dr. Rena Kostis from the Department of Dietetics and Nutrition offered a tasty traditional experience, accompanying the presentation with local tsipouro. Producer Mr. Tsinas presented the high-quality aged distillate Asclepius, a premium product from Muscat of Hamburg that reflects the authenticity and care of the Faloria region. Ms. Maria Aliaga, owner of Meteora Farm, presented traditional goat’s sour milk, a product that combines sustainability, authentic flavor and local character.

This action confirms the University of Thessaly’s commitment to being at the forefront of sustainable development, strengthening synergies between science, education and production.
